logo8This Earth Day will see more REO home owners celebrating than ever before.  More and more environmentally conscious home buyers are discovering the advantages of buying REO property.  Rather than buy a home that is already outfitted with solar panels and other “green construction” these home buyers are choosing REO properties in distress and using the savings on the property to retro fit them green.

In this way they are not only helping the environment by converting a home to green specifications, row-of-treesthey are helping the neighborhood and the economy.  As an extra added bonus they are also saving money.

Buy REO it is the ultimate in green consciousness! The advice and tips offered in this blog are intended to be solely informational and do not apply in all circumstances.  Make sure that you consult a real estate professional, financial consultant or accountant before taking any action.  For further information or questions please contact Gabriella@IARNY.com

logo8The current REO property market is one of the most important real estate opportunities in history.  There are those who compare it to the great land rushes, where people who never thought they would be able to own land suddenly found themselves in a position to work hard and own something of great value.  I talk frequently about the many advantages of buying REO property, but I would love to know what questions you have.

sticky note mind map with questions on a blackboardI would like to start a series called “Ask Gaby”. logo8Forrest Gump said “Life is like a box of chocolates…you never know what you’re going to get.”  Well I agree that life is like a box of chocolates, but usually a box of chocolates has a “legend” that tells you what the chocolates are – if you are willing to look at it.  Sure, I know people who don’t bother looking at the legend, they want to be surprised.  chocolateaI like surprises, but I also hate waste.  I know if I bite into a chocolate with nougat I’m not going to finish it.  I like to look at the legend, that way I get all of the chocolates with coconut or raspberry.  Yeah!

I think the same is true in life. If you are willing to ask a few questions you can decided what you want to get, not what is given to you.  I know lots of people who pay full price for real estate, never realizing they can buy REO property and save thousands of dollars on high quality property.  Life is like a box of chocolates but if you want to know what you are getting in real estate make sure you give Island Advantage Realty, LLC a call.  We are the industry leaders in REO property for the metro NY and Long Island areas.

logo7I love to hear my Aunt Sarah tell the story of the day her father brought home the first color television on the block.  My Great Uncle Norman was a big man.  The running joke was that he was as big as a mountain.  His heart was certainly that big.  According to my Aunt Sarah he saved to be able to buy that first color TV.  It was a Zenith.  daisyThe TV was delivered and while Uncle Norman loved it, he couldn’t wait to share it, with everyone.  The grown ups on the block were invited over on Friday night, but Aunt Sarah can’t remember what they watched, as she was packed off to bed.  What she does recall is the party that was thrown for the neighborhood children that first Saturday morning as they were all treated to cartoons in color for the first time.

Knowing your neighbors and entertaining them in your own home is one of the great pleasures in life.  It doesn’t have to break your budget either.  New Yorkers are realizing that buying REO property is often less expensive than renting.  If you are interested in purchasing REO property please give us a call at Island Advantage Realty, LLC.

logo8I attended a very special Easter Egg decorating party the other day.  It was hosted by a family with eight children, four of whom are foster children.  This Easter, for the first time, the family will be enjoying their first Easter Egg hunt in their very own back yard.  For years this family struggled to make ends meet in a rented apartment with four small bedrooms.  You can imagine the amount of patience and bunk beds that were required to keep the peace.  easter-eggs

Just after the first of the year this family closed on a lovely REO property with six bedrooms.  There was some work that needed to be done on the home but the reduced price enabled the family to afford not only the home but the wheel chair ramp that now extends to the front door.  With six bedrooms there is still the need for some sharing but now there is no more than one set of bunk beds per room. And there is a luscious back yard, large enough for a tremendous egg hunt!

Island Advantage Realty LLC would like to wish a Happy Easter to all of our friends, family and clients.  In this time of renewal and rebirth we hope you enjoy the company of friends and family. The advice and tips offered in this blog are intended to be solely informational and do not apply in all circumstances.  Make sure that you consult a real estate professional, financial consultant or accountant before taking any action.  For further information or questions please contact Gabriella@IARNY.com

logo8Can the effect of home movies ever be over estimated?  This last weekend my family gathered and my cousin Therese announced that she had taken a stack of the old family movies and had them converted to DVD.  The next four hours were a blur of tears and laughter as we watched endless scenes of years gone by featuring loved ones both here and gone.

What was amazing to all of us was not just the joy of seeing everyone younger but the excitement with which we viewed the locations.  popcornThere was one movie of a Christmas in 1960 shot by my Aunt Lillian, who was not the greatest camera person.  Faces were cut in half and sometimes images flew by in a blur.  Still, at one point the entire room erupted in cheers at a momentary shot of an old wing backed chair.  Three generations shouted at the memory of a chair in which we had all been rocked to sleep in over a 40 year span.  It reminded everyone of “home”.

One thing is certain time will continue to pass.  Make sure you are making memories with your family and whenever possible dig out the camera to document them.  If you are ready to make memories in a new home please contact us at Island Advantage Realty, LLC.  We help families everyday to own a home of their own.
